MY HEART IS BROKEN FOR MARINE ANIMALS

Kheaye Speaks 02

It was already 2:00am, however, I can’t sleep. One of those nights wherein my insomnia visited me. Probably because I drink my favorite Ice Coffee Chocolate.

As I browse the videos in YouTube, one video I scanned into was from Save Paws YouTube Channel wherein they are removing Barnacles from the shell and body of a Sea Turtle. Next video was from Ocean Conservation Namibia wherein they are rescuing Sea Lions who have Plastic Nylon Rope in their body and needs to be removed.

My heart bled for the Sea Lions. I can feel their discomfort and pain having those plastic nylon rope, especially those very thin one, piercing to their bodies to the point that it cause deep cuts in their skin. They were not able to eat and breath properly. They cannot swim and hunt because of this plastic nylons tangled in their body. I have seen two baby Sea Lions or Pups tangled with each others. There was this video wherein the other Pup is already dead because of the nylon rope tied very tight in their body. The other one has swollen mouth because he is trying to free himself from the tangled nylon rope. When Pups are freed, the rescuers were sad and disheartened because they were too late for the other Pup. I was also sad and cried seeing this.

Another video I saw was an old video posted by Sea Turtle Biologist wherein a Sea Turtle have a Plastic Straw stuck deep in his nostrils. While removing the Plastic Straw, which at first the rescuers did not know what it was, I can see the pain and discomfort of the Sea Turtle. While it was being removed slowly, the Sea Turtle bled, that made me think that he was badly hurt and I thought that how difficult it is for him to breath. When it was completely removed, I was surprised on how long the plastic straw is and thought how deep it was lodge in his nostrils.

Watching this video made me realize that I am being selfish for so long. Using this plastic straws and using items/objects that are plastics especially the plastic bags wherein I did not know how it was disposed after the garbage left our houses. I feel that one way or another that I help contribute to this problem and have a part on the sufferings of the marine animals.

I told my mother that I will try very hard not to use plastic materials anymore especially straw. And I thought for myself that I will help in my own little way to contribute and support groups and agency that rescues the Marine Animals or any groups that look into the welfare of the animals. One way I could is help by promoting and spreading awareness about this.

Animals cannot speak for themselves, I want to be their voice. It crossed my mind that this might be my purpose in life. Supporting and advocating about animal safety not only for Marine Animals but every animals in their own habitat that they may have a safe home and environment. I am not sure if I made sense with what I am saying here but watching those videos, I realize that we are really cruel. It is time for us to act in saving and preserving the habitat where the animals are living in especially the Marine Animals. We have to stop using plastic straws and use safe materials in fishing. People should be responsible when they do fishing. We should find ways not to hurt the marine animals. Stop using the nylon ropes especially those thinnest/smallest one. We have to ensure that we do proper disposal with our plastic garbage or better we should stop using plastic materials.

We have to start acting right now before it is too late. What we are doing right now will have an effect to us and the future generation. Let us keep our Ocean and Seas Safe for our Marine Animals.

I hope for your help to explore and protect the wild ocean in ways that will restore the health and, in so doing, secure hope for humankind. Health to the ocean means health for us.
