This year’s elections promise to be no different, with many familiar names and political dynasties returning to the limelight. Among them is a familiar family that holds a significant place in the heart of Davaoenos—the Dutertes.
The recent filing of COCs by the Dutertes is both nostalgic and reassuring for the people of Davao. Former President Rodrigo Duterte has decided to run for Mayor once again, alongside his son, current Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte, who is vying for the Vice Mayor position, and Congressman Paolo “Polong” Duterte for the 1st District. The stronghold of the Duterte family in Davao is clear, but this election season brings more complex emotions, especially concerning former President Duterte’s age and health.
While age doesn’t necessarily diminish one’s capacity to lead, it’s natural to express concerns regarding the former president’s well-being. After all, being in a leadership position comes with immense stress and responsibility. However, Davaoenos seem to believe in his leadership, and many welcome him back with open arms.
