A side-by-side collage showing Madonna, Shakira with Burna Boy, BTS, and Justin Bieber performing live during the first-ever 2026 FIFA World Cup Final Halftime Show.

The world just witnessed history at the New York New Jersey Stadium. For the first time ever, the FIFA World Cup Final introduced a massive, Super Bowl-style Halftime Show. Curated by Coldplay’s Chris Martin and produced in partnership with Global Citizen, this 11-minute cultural explosion brought together global music titans, orchestral arrangements, and childhood icons.

Did the performance live up to the astronomical hype? From K-Pop kings singing live to the undisputed Queen of football anthems, here is my honest review and ranking of the historic 2026 FIFA World Cup Final Halftime Show.

1. The Undisputed Queen: Shakira (and Burna Boy)

If there is one person who owns the DNA of global football entertainment, it is Shakira. Having performed across five different World Cup editions, her energy remains unmatched. Taking the stage with Afrofusion star Burna Boy to perform the official tournament anthem “Dai Dai,” Shakira brought the ultimate, high-octane party vibe. Her stage presence is practically engineered for massive stadium events like this. She effortlessly claimed the crown of the evening.

2. The Live Vocal Kings: BTS

Performing their record-breaking hit “Dynamite,” BTS brought an explosive, football-inspired choreography to the pitch. What impressed me most, especially alongside Justin Bieber, was their commitment to singing live. Despite the intense choreography and backing music, their raw vocals shined through. While some critics wondered if FIFA simply wanted to leverage the massive BTS ARMY fandom to hype the tournament, the reality is that the World Cup is already the biggest sporting event on earth. BTS was there because of their sheer global status and their genuine friendship with creative curator Chris Martin. My only complaint? The collaborative format meant their set was way too short.

3. The Pure Nostalgia Kickoff: Madonna

The Queen of Pop kicked off the historic show with a reworked, high-energy rendition of her smash hit “Music” blent with “Disco Inferno”. Bathed in vibrant pink and purple lights, Madonna didn’t just bring dancers, she brought football royalty. Arriving in a custom ride driven by Brazilian legends Ronaldo and Ronaldinho, she perfectly bridged the gap between pop music history and football legacy. It was a brilliant, nostalgic way to open the show.

4. The Surprising Shift: Justin Bieber

Introduced via a surprise comedy sketch by Ted Lasso stars Jason Sudeikis and Brendan Hunt, Justin Bieber’s performance showed how much he has evolved. For those of us still mentally stuck in the “Baby” era, seeing this mature, grounded version of JB is a shift. Stripping down the flashiness, he delivered a soulful, acoustic guitar performance of “Everything Hallelujah”. He swapped out the confident, untouchable pop star persona for something deeply down-to-earth and authentic.

5. The Epic Finale: Coldplay, The Muppets, & PS22 Chorus

The show concluded with an orchestral cover of The White Stripes’ “Seven Nation Army” led by legendary conductor Gustavo Dudamel, transitioning beautifully into a colorful finale. Chris Martin joined the Webby Award-winning PS22 Chorus and beloved Muppets characters to debut a brand new track, “We Dance”.

As fireworks illuminated the stadium sky, the ultimate message of the night was clear: unity. No matter your country, race, age, or ethnicity, the world needs love and connection. We only have one planet, and we need to protect it together.

What Were Your Favorite Moments?
