My Scary Experience & How to Secure Your Social Media Pages

Last night, I faced one of my biggest digital nightmares—I was suddenly logged out of my Facebook and Messenger accounts. My heart raced as I tried to log back in, but I couldn’t. Days before, I had received a warning from Facebook about “suspected automated behavior.” At the time, I brushed it off, but now, reality hit hard.

Losing access to my Facebook Page was terrifying, not just because of sentimental value, but also because it was linked to my business pages. I’ve poured hours into content planning, marketing, and audience engagement—starting over isn’t an option. But why would someone try to hack a page that isn’t even monetized? That’s what I couldn’t understand.

If you suspect unauthorized access to your account, look out for these red flags:
✔️ Unexpected Logouts – You’re suddenly logged out and can’t sign back in.
✔️ Unrecognized Emails or Phone Numbers – Additional email addresses or phone numbers appear in your account settings.
✔️ Strange Activity – Posts, messages, or comments you didn’t make.
✔️ Security Alerts – Notifications from Facebook, Instagram, or other platforms about unusual login attempts.
✔️ Password Change Prompts – You receive emails about password changes you didn’t request.

Even if your page isn’t monetized or has few followers, hackers still have motives, including:
🔹 Selling stolen accounts – Hacked pages are sold to spammers for scams or phishing.
🔹 Spreading malware or fake links – They use your trusted profile to spread malicious links.
🔹 Data theft – Personal information can be used for identity theft.
🔹 Impersonation scams – Hackers pretend to be you and scam your followers.

After my experience, I took immediate action to secure my account. Here’s what you should do:

🔐 Change Your Password – Use a strong, unique password.
📲 Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) – This adds an extra layer of security.
📩 Check Account Emails & Remove Unrecognized Ones – Ensure only your email is linked.
🛑 Review Connected Apps & Permissions – Revoke access to suspicious third-party apps.
📢 Report to Facebook Support – Use their Help Center to report the issue.
🚫 Avoid Clicking Suspicious Links – Even if they seem to come from trusted sources.

This experience was a wake-up call about digital security. Whether your page is personal or business-related, it holds value—protect it. Hackers don’t just target big accounts; they exploit any vulnerability they can find.

💡 Stay vigilant, secure your accounts, and don’t let hackers take control of your hard work!
