Why Do People Still Choose to Cheat? A Public Scandal, Private Pain

Another cheating scandal just went viral. This time, it involved the CEO of a tech company and the Chief of HR—both married—caught red-handed by a KissCam at a Coldplay concert. What should’ve been a fun, romantic moment for concertgoers turned into a digital nightmare that sparked global outrage and humiliation, not just for the company, but most especially for their unsuspecting spouses and children.
As I reflect on this, I can’t help but ask: Was it worth it?
Was the thrill of secret meet-ups, of hiding behind phone calls and stolen moments, worth the pain and public disgrace that followed?
I honestly do not understand why some people choose to cheat instead of communicating openly with their partners.
Is it really that difficult to say:
- “I’m not happy anymore.”
- “I feel disconnected from this relationship.”
- “There’s someone else making me feel alive again.”
These words may be painful, but they are truthful. And the truth, no matter how hurtful, is far more respectful than betrayal.
As someone who is in a relationship, I can’t imagine lying and cheating on my partner. That, to me, is the highest form of disrespect. Because at the end of the day:
💔 Love is a choice.
💍 Being loyal is a choice.
🗣 Honesty is a choice.
🙏 Respect is a choice.
💑 And choosing someone to marry them? That, too, is a choice.
So why is it so hard to choose the right thing?
In the age of the internet, nothing stays hidden for long. One viral clip, one KissCam moment and the entire world knows. But beyond the memes and online gossip, let’s not forget who truly suffers:
the children.
They will carry the weight of this humiliation, the confusion, and the emotional scars. Some will be bullied. Others will question what love and marriage truly mean.
So again, I ask… Was it really worth it?
“Infidelity doesn’t just break hearts, it shatters families, scars children, and shakes the foundation of trust. If you can’t stay, walk away. But never cheat.”
